Only a short walk through the tree and waterfall to finish our exped in Imlil, ready to be picked up and driven back to Marrakech.

One thing I always notice on these trips, is the connection between the people that come along.

Shes a coach herself, so has the knowledge, but shes also human.

She puts her clients first, (as most coaches do) so she needed some structure to her own training that she didn’t need to think about & some accountability to make sure it’s done.

Goals were set.

The program written and adapted when needed.

But when it came to completing her ultra, it was cancelled last minute.

So what did she do? She ran the route anyway.

“Ready for anything” isn’t just about physical capacity, it’s about being mentally flexible to adapt quickly too.

It would have been easy for her to head home, but instead, she set out doing what she said she’d do.

And as a coach, thats what I’m looking for.

Not the fittest. Not the strongest. But the people that want to show up for themselves and do what they said they would do.

Episode 4 of building a mobile basecamp!

This week was a nice delivery from @veedubtransporters (not sponsored)

So it was getting stuck into some aesthetics with the gloss handles, bonnet protector and gas strut for the bonnet.

Pretty simple jobs but the smaller details are all starting to mount up to improving the whole vibe of the van!

Still haven’t decided on an interior set up yet!

But its slowly starting to come together!

We need to stop normalising sore knees and glass backs!

This is exactly why I built the Basecamp program 🏔️

A year ago, Sandra was struggling with her back and her knee.

She was shelving her plans and assuming that’s just how it’s going to be now.

This week she finished the Carros de Foc.

5 days, hut to hut, through the Pyrenees, with a 10-12kg pack on her back.

No pain & no issues.

Energy to spare at the end of every day.

Enjoying the challenge, rather than surviving it!

That’s the whole point of why I coach.

Not just getting fitter for the sake of it but building a body that can actually handle the outdoors, the multi-day treks, the bucket-list stuff, without breaking down along the way.

The rest and time between sets is largely irrelevant in my experience BUT it does matter if you’re on a tight schedule and can’t spend loads of time waiting to feel fresh for your next set.

That being said, in the little time I spend in commercial gyms these days, I can’t help but gaze around at the countless people on their phones for minutes at a time.

People doing a typical 8-12 rep set, but having 5+ minutes in-between sets to scroll instagram or catch up on messages.

Which only results in a longer session.

My BIGGEST tip, is to time your sets and feel them out each week.

If you need slightly longer before your next set to get all the reps, thats cool, but make yourself away of how long your resting too.

Less rest with the same or more output, is a form of progressive overload.

Use all of the tools available to force an adaptation!
